Dartmoor
First of all, I’m sorry to say….. But Stonehenge is probably the most underwhelming ancient site I’ve ever seen.
The noise from the nearby main road kills the mystery of the place.
There are much cooler but smaller stone circles on Dartmoor. You’ve got to hike to them over the pretty tough ground but that just makes them a whole lot more atmospheric.
I seriously recommend it….. In fact, I’d say Dartmoor was one of the top 10 places to see in the UK.
Check out the prison and its origins as a philanthropic utopian project. The irony is just insane. Proof of the old saying that “the road to Hell is paved with good intentions”.
